Comfort cooling in a desert oasis

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company or ADNOC is the State-owned oil company of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It is the world's 12th-largest oil company by production. ADNOC petrol stations are located across the country, meaning it faces harsh temperatures during peak summer conditions in the Middle East.

Systemair had a strong working relationship with the clients, and the project benefited from having strong collaboration and cooperation from design until the execution of the project.

Proven performance and quick deliveries

The requirement was for solutions with good performance and strong reliability, with the main objective of creating an air barrier at the entrance of the petrol stations[HU1] ’ retail stores to maintain cool indoor conditions. There was also a special requirement on colour to meet the interior’s aesthetic and to be able to fix the product on the wall without disturbing surrounding components.

To guarantee the performance of the Frico air curtains, Systemair provided a mock-up sample to the customer to be used in one station to demonstrate the unit’s high performance. The air curtains performed well and met the requirement, by creating a thermal barrier while ensuring the noise level remained acceptable.

The solution offered a fire alarm and reliable controls that seamlessly manage frequent door openings throughout the day. The control system integrates seamlessly with the BMS to be easily used and adjusted as needed.

The project had a strict timeline and must be delivered in six months.

The solution was installed in ADNOC petrol stations across all seven Emirates, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. The solutions were chosen for being able to provide 10%-20% of energy savings, offering better indoor air quality and comfort to the customers. The solutions offered good controls and were proven by the CFD by comparing the solution with and without air curtains.
