Strict requirements

The main requirement was for the fresh air handling unit (FAHU), ecology unit and makeup air fans to modulate as per the kitchen demand at a reduced 22 KW power reduction.

Customised design

The condenser unit was modified further to meet customer needs resulting in additional 10-20% energy savings. The solution used high-energy efficient fans to save 20-30% power consumption.

Like any professional kitchen, the cloud kitchen under City Storage Systems (CSS) Holding in Arjan, Dubailand, Al Barsha South, Dubai, places high emphasis on hygienic operations, high-quality operations and the comfort and health of its staff. As such, the company needed ventilation solutions that would meet these requirements. Systemair became the solution provider of choice for this project.

As a first-time partner for the customer, Systemair worked closely with all the stakeholders supporting every step from design to completion. The project had a stringent timeline and had to be completed in 4-6 weeks.

The ingredients for good IAQ

The critical requirements were for the fresh air handling unit, ecology units and make-up fans to modulate as per the kitchen's operational demand, all at 22 KW less than standard industrial power standards and delivered within the strict project completion time.

To meet these requirements, Systemair engineered its already energy-efficient solutions even further.

To start with, Systemair provided the following:

  • FAHU with condensing unit

  • 2 customsied Ecology units[HU1] 

  • 15 K Fans  

  • 6 CDRE Box Fans

Systemair adapted and custom tailored the solutions to meet the project's particular needs.

Energy efficiency -- enhanced

There was a need for a power input reduction of approximately 22 KW less than the standard industrial standards. This was achieved by high energy efficient fans and developing a new condensing unit design to ensure the same cooling capacity at lesser power input.

The new design saw improvements in

  • The geometry of the fins

  • Condenser coil size

  • PLC control panels for both FAHU & Ecology modulation as per demand in the kitchen hoods

While FAHU power input was initially 125KW the new design reduced this to 111 KW. The modification resulted in an energy savings of 14KW, supported with PLC controls that modulate according to use.

These custom changes resulted in 11% energy savings.
