Welkin Solutions supplied Aga Khan University (AKU) with quality air handling unit and ventilation solutions that ensure patient and student health, wellness, and productivity.
Aga Khan Hospital and Medical College Foundation, Pakistan
Close coordination was critical for the success of this project, ensuring the timely and efficient integration of high-quality products.
By leveraging Welkin’s local expertise and Systemair’s global technical capabilities, AKU has consistently maintained high-quality standards across its facilities.
Due to space constraints, a compact design was essential, especially since the new equipment is replacing installations that have been in place for 20 years.
The project required equipment with hygienic certification, which is critical to maintaining the necessary hygiene standards and indoor climate for such a critical application.
Since its founding 1983 as Pakistan's first private university, Aga Khan University (AKU) has grown significantly, expanding to Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Afghanistan, and the United Kingdom.
AKU, an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network, began as a health-sciences university and has become one of the largest private healthcare providers in Pakistan and East Africa and the main sites for clinical training for the University's Medical Colleges and Schools of Nursing and Midwifery. The hospitals under its banner were the first in those regions to receive accreditation from the U.S.-based Joint Commission International. AKU's research and graduates have significantly influenced health policy and practice nationally and internationally.
The Aga Khan Foundation, which oversees these institutions, was established to support the creation, management, and operation of teaching hospitals, healthcare facilities, medical colleges, and research centres.
Given the critical nature of the work at Aga Khan University Hospitals, it is essential for the facilities to have high-quality technical solutions that ensure the optimal comfort and health of their occupants. Since 2022, Welkin Solutions has maintained a strong partnership with AKU, providing Systemair solutions tailored to meet these demanding standards. Through close collaboration, Welkin has successfully delivered and installed numerous solutions, with additional projects currently in production and in the pipeline.
AKU prioritises Welkin Solutions over other brands due to the company’s commitment to quality, exceptional service, quick response times, and robust technical support. By leveraging Welkin’s local expertise and Systemair’s global technical excellence, AKU has upheld its high-quality standards across its facilities.
The cooperation between Welkin Solutions and Aga Khan University Hospitals hinges on four critical components. Firstly, close coordination is essential; for a project of this scale, strong collaboration among all parties, facilitating knowledge exchange, is vital to ensure the timely and efficient integration of quality products.
Secondly, the project required hygienic-certified equipment, which is crucial for meeting the stringent indoor climate standards necessary for such a critical application.
Thirdly, a compact design was imperative due to space constraints, as the new equipment needed to replace units installed over 20 years ago.
Finally, the project demanded top-quality products to adhere to the high standards required. The project timeline was carefully managed to accommodate all stakeholders, ensuring a successful outcome.
Welkin Solutions and Systemair were committed to consistently managing the client relationship with transparency, outlining realistic capabilities and delivering within their capacity. Welkins and Systemair offered top-of-the-line equipment and a diverse range of products from our global factories.
Welkin Solutions supplied the project with Systemair Air Handling Units, VRF Condensing Units, Fans, and VFDs, specifically including the FLNG, Geniox, and SYSVRF2 series. The products were selected for their superior quality, and the project significantly benefited from a strong follow-up and hands-on approach.
Aga Khan’s stringent requirements included dual fans for redundancy, ABB motors paired with ABB IP55 VFDs to withstand harsh weather conditions, and UV lamps positioned after the cooling coils to ensure optimal hygiene.
Harris Qureshi, the Director of Technical Operations at Aga Khan, played a pivotal role in this project. Having previously worked with Systemair products in the UAE, he strongly recommended our solutions to his team, which was crucial in securing their confidence.
